Children and Astrology

Children are precious. As parents we should take care to allow each child to grow into his/her unique expression of self. With this in mind astrology has its place as a parenting tool, I am particularly partial to it in fact. By using a birth chart we can gain deeper insight into each child’s individual needs, allowing them to grow as unique beings while supporting their particular talents and ways of learning, we can be more sensitive to their emotions and more attentive to their motivations. We can better avoid the pervasive temptation to mould our children to our wishes but rather, begin to understand their distinctive needs, personalities, strengths, problems and inclinations. We can help them develop into the best of whom they are destined to be!
Following, I will be looking at the specific childhood traits of the individual Sun signs. However, it’s important to realise that this is only one part of a larger picture. No birth chart is the same as another, just as no individual is quite the same as anyone else; to fully benefit from Astrology a specific chart would need to be drawn up for the child in question. The alignment of planets at the exact time of birth is symbolic of one unique potential for development, it is the beginning of the great task of embracing a fulfilling life.

Aries: Aries children are impatient! They enjoy teasing! Babies and toddlers especially, need plenty of exercise in order to sleep well. Aries should be taught about the consequences of actions as early as possible. Opportunities for interaction and leadership skills such as team sports should be encouraged as a tool for this lesson. Aries is at its best when faced with a challenge and can be a high level achiever.

Taurus: These children love nature and a barefoot walk on the grass can cure any tantrums and sadnesses. Sharing with others can be a problem. These babies love toys with varying textures and materials, like velvet. They are very sensitive to touch, taste and smell!
Change is not handled well by young Taureans and can cause feelings of vulnerability and insecurity. If At times change is unavoidable, then they should be given plenty of reassurance and support.

Gemini: These children are alert, quick witted and talkative, often from a very early age! It is a good idea to provide books, paper, pens, toy telephones and the like as soon as possible! They need variety and movement as well and enjoy being near activity. Geminis need to be taught to listen and to develop tact. Sometimes they are too honest for their own good! Musical instruments often appeal to Gemini and as a child they should be given the chance to explore this option.

Cancer: Cancerian Babies are very attached to the Mother and enjoy being at home! They love other babies and small animals. Constant reassurance that they are loved and appreciated can be necessary. This is one of the most emotional of the Sun signs and their feelings are easily hurt. The tactile senses are strong so lots of hugs and cuddles are recommended! They love music and singing is the best way to calm their frazzled feelings.

Leo: Leos love warmth and the Sun. They are naturally showy and easily command attention. It is important that they learn to let others own their personal power too! Any activity where the spotlight is shared should be encouraged. The Leo demands recognition for their achievements and this should be given freely, otherwise attention will be sort through less positive actions! Leo pride can be the source of disputes in adolescence. Negotiation skills should be encouraged.

Virgo: Virgo is highly attuned to the physical body and does not enjoy discomfort of any kind! These are the babies that complain loud and clear when their nappies are soiled or their hands are dirty! Virgo is naturally helpful and there can be a tendency to take advantage of this and forget to adequately praise their efforts! They are generally good students but can be perfectionists to their own detriment. Teach them to relax and enjoy life as well!!

Libra: These children are popular and friendly. They dislike being alone and will enjoy playgroup and school because of the social element. Librans are known as easy babies, if restless they can be appeased by talking, soothing music or beautiful surroundings. Music, art and design are particular talents and should be supported from an early age. They can be indecisive and should be given ample opportunity to practice decision-making!

Scorpio: These are intense babies, who can appear to scrutinise your every move! For Scorpio children life is experienced at a very deep level. They will tend to repress their feelings and need to be encouraged to talk through their emotions from as early an age as is possible. They need to learn effective ways to release pain, like massage or meditation. Creative expression can also be helpful. They possess great will power and determination that will ultimately see them reaching their goals.

Sagittarius: Sagittarian children are active, outgoing and optimistic. They are quite lucky and always seem to land on their feet! They love travel and learning new things. Learning is enjoyed more when it is not traditional! They are philosophical and easily distracted, consequently they are often accused of being dreamers. They like to be on the move and playpens will only frustrate them! A walk around the block can pacify an upset infant.

Capricorn: These children like to be in control. They are the babies who insist on feeding themselves when in reality they cannot manage to wield the spoon! They are quietly confident and possess a cautious independence. It is helpful to offer a Capricorn child personal responsibilities, like household chores or looking after a pet. They shine when they feel useful and can then maintain a positive outlook! They have an affinity with older people and enjoy adult company.

Aquarius: Aquarians represent all that is unique and original. This individual will not fit into a traditional mould! They need space to express their individuality and ‘do their own thing’. They are more likely to conform when they are not forced to do so. Too many restraints will only encourage rebelliousness. Aquarian babies can seem to be far away a good deal of the time. They actually seem to enjoy their own company! They are not particularly emotional and enjoy group interaction.

Pisces: There is often an otherworldly or dreamy quality in Pisces children. They respond best to a peaceful, calm environment. It is wise to be especially sensitive to these children when they are watching television or movies because they are highly impressionable. It can be hard for them to distinguish between fantasy and reality. They are likely to imitate the people they like, so be particularly careful of whom they associate with.
