Astral meanders 16th-23rd June 2010

In General: Mercury is particularly busy this week with a quintile to Uranus and Jupiter. This cautions us to look deeper when presented with ideas and offers that seem too good to be true! Yes it is a time to act quickly and decisively but it is also a time to double check everything and be sure of the facts! The Sun and Saturn square off on the 19-20th making communication difficult and tedious. Learning the gentle art of compromise could come in handy now! Again the Sun and Mercury link up on the 23rd but this time the communication possibilities auger well for all interactions and especially or those where you want others to be impressed with your ideas. Be direct and go for Gold! Don’t forget we have arrived at the Winter Solstice on the 22nd of June a time to embrace the learning you have gained from the year past and consider the seeds you want you plant for the year ahead. If you have a birthday this week then look forward to a challenging but very rewarding year ahead. The emphasis will be on communications with others. On the world scene I would expect some poor decisions to hamper world leaders considerably and those who can’t or won’t compromise will pay the price! Locally celebrate the Solstice with a moment of reflection!

Astral Peeks: Winter Solstice:
On June 22nd (December 22nd in the Northern Hemisphere) we celebrate Midwinter, also known as Yule or the Winter Solstice. Sol means Sun and Stice means ‘to stand still’. This recognises the longest day in this half of the year. As the days now begin to grow longer again, possibilities and hopes are rekindled. This is why it has often been a time associated with the birth of a redeemer. In the Northern Hemisphere Yule is associated with the celebration of Christmas. It is in essence the passage from the darkest point back into the light that we celebrate. Below are some lovely ideas to mark the solstice!

1. Make a Sun oil: use 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 Bay leaf, 1 pinch of Saffron, 1 drop of Lemon juice and mix with a half cup of vegetable oil or similar base. Use it to burn or anoint candles.

2. Candles are a powerful symbol of this time and you can make your own by melting down all the old bits of candle from the past year. This is a symbolic act and indicates your ability to transform the old and create the new! Pour the wax into a container that will be the final candle holder and place a piece of string or wick into the mix you might also like to add a few drops of oil, the above oil, Geranium, Mandarin or Lemon are appropriate!
